Computer-aided translation (CAT) systems are a rich set of tools designed to let translators work faster and ensure that the final text is of the highest quality. At the heart of every professional CAT system is the translation memory, which is a special database with text segments in the source and target text tied together. For more information on translation memory, see Translation Memory.
CAT tools also support software localization, and so it is possible to translate software at both the source code and the compiled project level. The translator can therefore preview all dialog boxes, user interfaces, etc.
